Вітаю! Як маецеся? 12 жніўня — 12 верасьня прапаную зладзіць «Месяц істотных артыкулаў» да 19-годзьдзя Беларускай Вікіпэдыі. Зь 2022 году існуе пашыраная вэрсія сьпіса 10 000 істотных артыкулаў, зь якіх маем звыш 5000 артыкулаў. У 2010 годзе пасьпяховым быў досьвед «Тыдня істотных артыкулаў», які якраз скончыўся 11 жніўня. Буду ўдзячны за ўсялякі водгук і заўвагі, а таксама падтрымку ў гэтай справе і ўдзел. Спадарожна віншую з плённым вынікам конкурсу «Віківясна-2023», які ўпершыню прыцягнуў 19 удзельнікаў. Даданьне артыкулаў беларускай лацінкай

Шаноўнае спадарства!. Надоечы стварыў ужо існуючы артыкул на кірыліцы лацінкай. Аднак ўжо праз пару гадзін убачыў што артыкул стаіць у кандыдатуры на выдаленьне. Прычынай выдаленьня выявілася наступнае: "Беларускі клясычны правапіс у сучаснай нармалізацыі 2005 году існуе толькі кірыліцай і для кірыліцы.". Перачытаўшы клясычны правапіс у сучаснай нармалізацыі 2005 году, не знайшоў там нічога сказанага там пра немагчымасьць карыстаньня ім лацінкай. Увогуле даволі бязглузда гучыць гэтае сьцьверджаньне ("Беларускі клясычны правапіс ... існуе толькі кірыліцай і для кірыліцы.") калі прыгадаць, што клясычны правапіс быў выданы сьпярша лацінкай, а потым ужо кірыліцай (і Браніславу Тарашкевічу гэта зусім не замінала). Урэшце рэшт, хіба ж артыкулы лацінкай замінаюць існаваньню артыкулаў кірыліцай? З аднога боку, можа й лепей каб яны былі асобна, але ж пакуль асобнай Biełaruskaj Vikipedyi няма. Дзякуй за ўвагу.

Рэч у тым, што тэхнічна немагчыма адразу пісаць абодвума графікамі, бо ў фармаце вольнай энцыкляпэдыі, якую можа рэдагаваць кожны, гэта стварае блытаніну і разнабой. Таму ў гэтым разьдзеле пішам толькі кірыліцай згодна з Вікіпэдыя:Правапіс. Для тых, хто хоча не на словах, а на справе папулярызаваць нашу лацінку, прапанаваў ніжэй дзейны спосаб, як разбіць гэта. Заўважыў, што вас зацікавіла рачная тэма, таму дадаў магчымасьць вызначаць у картках рэк лацінкавае напісаньне іх назваў. Дадаў для шаблёну-карткі {{Населены пункт/Беларусь}} (прыклад выкарыстаньня — Менск). Прашу дадаваць лацінкавае напісаньне толькі ў шаблёны-карткі артыкулаў, бо на пэрспэктыву аўтаматычнай канвэртацыі лацінкавае напісаньне ўва ўводзінах аўтаматычна (як у шаблёнах-картках) схаваць не атрымаецца, што будзе шкодзіць нармальнаму ўспрыманьню артыкула: напрыклад, Dziarnoŭka (łacinkaj: Dziarnoŭka) — raka ŭ Biełarusi. З улікам таго, што «афіцыйная» (г.зн. акупацыйная) трансьлітарацыя зноў зьмянілася (як гэта ўжо адбывалася паміж 2003 і 2006 гадамі з мэтай выклікаць чарговы раскол, чаго ў пэўным сэнсе і дамагліся — з дапамогай вядомых карысных ідыётаў, якія не змаглі зразумець, што тая трансьлітарацыя — як і наркамаўка — толькі для афіцыёзу, па-за якім трэба карыстацца клясычным правапісам і традыцыйнай лацінкай), пляную ўнесьці ў {{Населены пункт/Беларусь}} парамэтар «Лацінка» і паступова замяняць ім «Трансьлітараваная назва» з выпраўленнем «трансьлітарацыі» на традыцыйнае лацінкавае напісаньне. Выглядае, што ў беларускай мове «прастол» — гэта запазычанне з расейскай, куды прыйшло з царкоўна- і стараславянскай (прастол у этымалягічным слоўніку беларускай мовы). «Сталец» лепей і меў падобнае значэньне ў старой беларускай мове (столецъ 'трон, прастол; сталіца'), але сучасныя беларускія слоўнікі ведаюць яго толькі ў форме «столец» і зь іншым значэньнем. Next week (the week of February 6), the Wikimedia Foundation Web team will move some links from the side menu ("sidebar") to a new menu on other side of the screen.

This will make it easier to intuitively use all the links and tools within our interface. The table of contents will also appear a bit higher up the screen because the sidebar will be shorter. The latter change would mostly be interesting for editors. This is because readers use the sidebar much more rarely.

Why we are changing this

The interface does not distinguish between the links and tools that are relevant to the website and the links and tools that are relevant to a single page. Main page, random page, recent changes, are in the first group. What links here, related changes, cite this page, belong to the second one. This mix is confusing to new readers. Also new editors are not familiar with what each link does. Mixing these groups makes it less likely for people to explore these tools naturally.

This change also addresses the concern for the location of the table of contents. Previously, some editors using an earlier version of Vector 2022 told us that because the table of contents appeared below the sidebar, it was placed too much down below the page. After this change, the sidebar will be shorter and thus will shift the table of contents further up in the page. Also, this change will reduce the white space on the page by using more of the space for the display of tools.

Gadgets' compatibility

Technically skilled editors may need to update some gadgets and user scripts. Some of these might become redundant or obsolete. We provide support for users who would like to maintain the compatibility. Please explore this section of our documentation for more information on gadget compatibility.

Далейшае зьмяненьне будзе пераважна цікавым для рэдактараў, бо чытачы карыстаюцца бакавым мэню значна радзей. In mid-January 2023, the Enforcement Guidelines for the Universal Code of Conduct will undergo a second community-wide ratification vote. This follows the March 2022 vote, which resulted in a majority of voters supporting the Enforcement Guidelines. During the vote, participants helped highlight important community concerns. The Board’s Community Affairs Committee requested that these areas of concern be reviewed.

The volunteer-led Revisions Committee worked hard reviewing community input and making changes. They updated areas of concern, such as training and affirmation requirements, privacy and transparency in the process, and readability and translatability of the document itself.

The revised Enforcement Guidelines can be viewed here, and a comparison of changes can be found here.

How to vote?

Beginning January 17, 2023, voting will be open. This page on Meta-wiki outlines information on how to vote using SecurePoll.

Who can vote?

The eligibility requirements for this vote are the same as for the Wikimedia Board of Trustees elections. See the voter information page for more details about voter eligibility. If you are an eligible voter, you can use your Wikimedia account to access the voting server.

What happens after the vote?

Votes will be scrutinized by an independent group of volunteers, and the results will be published on Wikimedia-l, the Movement Strategy Forum, Diff and on Meta-wiki. Voters will again be able to vote and share concerns they have about the guidelines. The Board of Trustees will look at the levels of support and concerns raised as they look at how the Enforcement Guidelines should be ratified or developed further.

Universal Code of Conduct revised enforcement guidelines vote results

The recent community-wide vote on the Universal Code of Conduct revised Enforcement Guidelines has been tallied and scrutinized. Thank you to everyone who participated.

After 3097 voters from 146 Wikimedia communities voted, the results are 76% in support of the Enforcement Guidelines, and 24% in opposition. Statistics for the vote are available. A more detailed summary of comments submitted during the vote will be published soon.

From here, the results and comments collected during this vote will be submitted to the Board of Trustees for their review. The current expectation is that the Board of Trustees review process will complete in March 2023. We will update you when their review process is completed.

Wikimedia Foundation Legal Department is organizing a feedback-cycle with community members to discuss updating the Wikimedia Terms of Use.

The Terms of Use (ToU) are the legal terms that govern the use of websites hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation. We will be gathering your feedback on a draft proposal from February through April. The draft will be translated into several languages, with written feedback accepted in any language.

This update comes in response to several things:

• Implementing the Universal Code of Conduct
• Updating project text to the Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0 license
• Proposal for better addressing undisclosed paid editing
• Bringing our terms in line with current and recently passed laws affecting the Foundation, including the European Digital Services Act

As part of the feedback cycle two office hours will be held, the first on March 2, the second on April 4.

This a reminder that the Wikimedia Foundation Legal Department is hosting office hours with community members about updating the Wikimedia Terms of Use.

Wikimedia Ukraine, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Ukrainian Institute, has launched the third edition of writing challenge "Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month", which lasts from 1st until 31st March 2023. The campaign is dedicated to famous Ukrainian artists of cinema, music, literature, architecture, design and cultural phenomena of Ukraine that are now part of world heritage. We accept contribution in every language! The most active contesters will receive prizes.

We invite you to take part and help us improve the coverage of Ukrainian culture on Wikipedia in your language! Also, we plan to set up a banner to notify users of the possibility to participate in such a challenge!

Board of Trustees have ratified the UCoC Enforcement Guidelines

Hello all, an important update on the UCoC Enforcement Guidelines:

The vote on the Enforcement Guidelines in January 2023 showed a majority approval of the Enforcement Guidelines. There were 369 comments received and a detailed summary of the comments will be published shortly. Just over three-thousand (3097) voters voted and 76% approved of the Enforcement Guidelines. You can view the vote statistics on Meta-wiki.

As the support increased, this signifies to the Board that the current version has addressed some of the issues indicated during the last review in 2022. The Board of Trustees voted to ratify the Enforcement Guidelines. The resolution can be found on Foundation wiki and you can read more about the process behind the 2023 Enforcement Guidelines review on Diff.

There are some next steps to take with the important recommendations provided by the Enforcement Guidelines. More details will come soon about timelines. Thank you for your interest and participation.

The Universal Code of Conduct project team has completed the analysis of the comments accompanying the ratification vote on the revised Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement Guidelines.

All respondents to the vote had the opportunity to provide comments regarding the contents of the revised Enforcement Guidelines draft document. A total of 369 participants left comments in 18 languages; compared to 657 commenters in 27 languages in 2022. The Trust and Safety Policy team completed an analysis of these results, categorizing comments to identify major themes and areas of focus within the comments. The report is available in translated versions on Meta-wiki here. Please help translate into your language.

Seeking volunteers for the next step in the Universal Code of Conduct process

As follow-up to the message about the Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement Guidelines by Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees Vice Chair, Shani Evenstein Sigalov, I am reaching out about the next steps. I want to bring your attention to the next stage of the Universal Code of Conduct process, which is forming a building committee for the Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C). I invite community members with experience and deep interest in community health and governance to nominate themselves to be part of the U4C building committee, which needs people who are:

• Community members in good standing
• Knowledgeable about movement community processes, such as, but not limited to, policy drafting, participatory decision making, and application of existing rules and policies on Wikimedia projects
• Aware and appreciative of the diversity of the movement, such as, but not limited to, languages spoken, identity, geography, and project type
• Committed to participate for the entire U4C Building Committee period from mid-May - December 2023
• Comfortable with engaging in difficult, but productive conversations
• Confidently able to communicate in English

The Building Committee shall consist of volunteer community members, affiliate board or staff, and Wikimedia Foundation staff.

The Universal Code of Conduct has been a process strengthened by the skills and knowledge of the community and I look forward to what the U4C Building Committee creates. News about upcoming sessions and the CEE Newsletter

CEE Hub has two major announcement for the upcoming week:

• Next CEE Catch up – youth edition will take place on May 16th 2023, 18:00-19:00 CEST. Please register for the event using the following link. This meeting is a part of already established CEE Catch up concept. The goal of the meeting is to gather young CEE Wikimedians/Wikipedians (up to 26 years old) and people who are older than 26 and who are interested in learning about and from youth.

• Learning session dedicated to Movement Strategy Implementation Grants, where you can learn how is the process for applying this type of grants, and to learn from first hand about two such funded initiatives in the CEE Region. This session will take place on May 17th 2023, 18:00-19:20 CEST. Please register for the event using the following link.

Invitation to participate in the #WPWPCampaign 2023

Dear Wikimedians,

We are glad to inform you that the 2023 edition of Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos campaign is coming up in July.

This is a formal invitation to invite individuals and communities to join the campaign to help improve Wikipedia articles with photos and other relevant media files.

If you're interested in participating, please find your community or community closer to you to participate from the Participating Communities page. If you're organizer, please add your community or Affiliate to the page.

The campaign primarily aims to promote using images from Wikimedia Commons to enrich Wikipedia articles. Participants will choose among Wikipedia pages without photos, then add a suitable file from among the many thousands of photos in the Wikimedia Commons, especially those uploaded from thematic contests (Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Folklore, etc.) over the years. In this edition of the campaign, eligibility criteria have been revised based on feedback and campaign Evaluation Reports of the previous editions.
